Uncommon Profiles: Anthony Nguyen
Say “hello” to Anthony Nguyen! Anthony has been working in architecture for four years and is one of the newest members of our team. We asked Anthony a few questions to get to know him a little better.
How long have you been working in Architecture? 4 Years
If you could travel back in time and pick any other era to design in, which would it be? Definitely the Renaissance with classical design.
The Renaissance was a cultural, artistic, and intellectual movement in Europe that roughly spanned the 14th to the 17th centuries, marking a "rebirth" of classical ideas after the Middle Ages. It began in Italy, characterized by renewed interest in Greek and Roman antiquity, groundbreaking advancements in art and science, the rise of prominent thinkers and artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, and a significant shift in the period's worldview. It also brought about some of the world’s most notable architecture with examples including St. Peter’s Basilica, Château de Chambord, and the Sistine Chapel.
Any other eras you’d choose to explore? Definitely the 1920s with art deco design.
1920s Art Deco architecture was bold, glamorous, and modern for its time, blending luxury with a celebration of progress. It’s characterized by its geometric precision, ornamental richness, and celebration of modern progress, merging artistry with industrial innovation. Some prime examples include the American Radiator Building (1924, New York City) and even the Empire Sate Building (although not officially completed until 1931).
What are some of your hobbies outside of work? I like to play games, make music, watch movies, and hammock in mountains.
What advice would you go back and give to yourself on day one as an architect? Chase those interests, take on that project, and don't be afraid to reach out.
Where do you find your creative inspiration? Usually from others, whether it be from conversations or videos I watch. I try to dissect events that happen and try to take inspiration from that.
